Art and Craft ShowHeld at various locations in Elko, the ECAC annual Art and Craft Show features a wide variety of fine arts and crafts by member artists. An evening reception is held to publicize the show and allow the general public and invited guests to meet the participating artists. ECAC members may enter a specified number of works in this show, which is not judged and no prizes are awarded. In addition to presenting fine art, this event showcases ECAC members craft items, fiber art, wearable art, and other artistic works that do not qualify for entry in the ECAC Annual Show. Art in the ParkThis annual art and craft festival is typically held on a Friday and Saturday in July in the Elko City Park. Proceeds from this event support the ECAC's activities and its monetary art and scholarship awards. Dozens of vendors come from Nevada and several other states to sell their artwork and handmade crafts. A variety of foods are also available to event attendees. Entertainers and events for children also draw crowds. ECAC artists gather in a designated area of the park to sell their works, either in separate booths or in the ECAC booth. Other ECAC events during Art in the Park include:
Annual Art ShowThis highlight of the ECAC year allows ECAC artists work to be displayed for two to three months at the Northeastern Nevada Museum in Elko. ECAC members are invited to enter a specified number of their original works created in the previous 12 months. Entries cannot have been entered previously in any judged show, and they cannot have been previously displayed in the museum. Entries are judged by a panel of judges from the fine art world, and significant cash prizes are awarded to the top three entries in each category. Categories include: acrylic/casein, oil, watercolor, pastel, mixed media, graphics (black/colored pencil, pen and ink), sculpture (freestanding or relief work), printmaking (etching, block printing, screen printing), and photography. In addition to first, second, and third place awards in each category, there are typically Judge's Choice Awards, a Best of Show award, and a People's Choice Award. Awards are announced and presented at the ECAC Annual Show Reception that features a sumptuous buffet open to the general public and invited guests. Each reception attendee receives a raffle ticket and is thus entered in a drawing that evening for a variety of artistic works created and donated by participating artists. Christmas PartyIn lieu of a December meeting, ECAC members usually gather for a
Christmas party in early December. In recent years, this event has been
a partially club-subsidized, catered dinner a local hotel. Members
spouses or significant others are invited, and each member brings a
homemade Christmas ornament if they wish to participate in a gift
exchange that night. The results of ECAC officer elections for the
coming year are usually announced at this event. |
